Welcome to BFR 2008

June 3-4, 2008  Victoria, BC Canada

We are happy to invite you to come to Victoria, BC Canada and be an active participant in BFR 2008.

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) such as PBDEs, HBCD and TBBPA are being examined extensively by many researchers around the world. The large production volumes of these compounds, their persistence, wide distribution in the environment, and their potential toxicological impacts on humans and wildlife have made these contaminants the focal point of many world regulatory agencies. Recent studies have brought to light the presence of metabolites of these compounds in the environment and their toxicological implications. The synergistic occurrence of BFRs with other persistent organic pollutants
such as PCBs, dioxins and DDT in the environment and humans raise questions regarding their combined impacts. These emerging issues together with approaches taken to further understand the toxicology,
fate and distribution of BFRs in the environment are going to be the focus of this workshop.

We are expecting scientists from around the world to attend the workshop. The workshop will provide
a forum for representatives from academia, government regulators, toxicologists, and industry to communicate the latest developments in BFR research and to foster collaboration among scientists
working in this field.

We look forward to seeing you!
